IOWA Assessments
Form E Online
(Complete & Survey Battery) Nationally Standardized Achievement Test

The IOWA Assessment Form E Online, published by Riverside Insights, is a well-known standardized test used by homeschoolers and private schools to measure student learning in reading, language, math, science, and social studies.

Created by the University of Iowa, the test is the most up-to-date version of the IOWA Assessments and compares student scores to recent national data (2017 norms). Unlike Forms A and C, which are only available in paper/pencil format, Form E is offered in both online and paper/pencil versions, providing flexibility to meet different testing needs.

The Complete Edition includes all subject areas for a comprehensive evaluation of student performance. The Survey Edition is a shorter version, covering the same subjects but with fewer questions, making it a quicker assessment while still providing valuable insights. Both are norm-referenced tests and are available for grades 3–12.

The IOWA Form E is available in an online format for students in Grades 3–12. This version offers the same nationally normed, standardized assessment as the paper edition, covering subjects like reading, language, math, science, and social studies. Online testing provides the convenience of completing assessments on a computer, eliminating the need for physical test materials and allowing for faster scoring.

Complete Battery

The Complete Battery is the full version of the IOWA Form E test. It assesses a wide range of skills across all subject areas, including reading, language, math, science, and social studies. This comprehensive evaluation provides detailed insights into a student’s academic strengths and areas that may need improvement. It’s ideal for those seeking an in-depth understanding of student performance across multiple subjects.

Survey Battery

The Survey Battery is a shorter version of the IOWA Form E test. It focuses primarily on reading, language/written expression, and math, providing a general overview of a student’s performance in these key areas. While it covers fewer questions and omits subjects like science and social studies, the Survey Battery is useful for obtaining a quick snapshot of academic abilities without the time commitment of the Complete Battery.

Scheduling, Test Process, and Scoring

Scheduling for both editions is first-come, first-served, and a full business day is typically required to confirm a testing date. To ensure availability, it is recommended to place an order at least one week in advance. Both versions are untimed, but students must complete testing by 5 PM Eastern Time each day, so please plan ahead

Students take the IOWA Form E Online test on a secure platform called DataManager, ensuring a standardized testing experience. The online format allows for electronic scoring, which means results are available more quickly than with paper tests. The assessment uses 2017 norms, so student scores are compared to a national sample from that year, providing an accurate measure of performance relative to peers across the country.

The IOWA Form E Online helps provide a clear picture of a student’s academic abilities and progress. It makes tracking growth easier and faster, allowing for quick identification of areas where a student may need more support. This can help guide future learning plans and ensure that students get the attention they need to succeed. We also offer the paper/pencil version if desired.
